Virginia SOL Coach – Writing Coach Grade 5 & 8

The books in our SOL Writing Coach begin with an overview of the SOL Writing Test, composition types, components of good writing, and rubrics used to score student writing. Instruction incorporates basic, higher-level, and critical thinking skills, and includes guided practice examples that illustrate the correct thinking process behind a good composition.

All lessons reinforce planning, composing, revising, and editing, and encourage students to meet composition, written expression, and usage/mechanics rubrics. Students receive ample practice and exposure to various composition types: Narrative, Persuasive, Expository, and Informational.
